In the field of science, education is often centered around terms, biological names, and processes of the world and what is going on around them. Classes are often criticized for being memorization. Students often learn just enough to get by, and are released into the world, expecting to get jobs.

This mindset is hurting college graduates as they are only learning how to “survive” by doing one particular thing. In the field of science, that one aspect that is taught is memorization for research and career writing. Rarely are students taught how to solve problems, live every day lives, or be happy in a job that you may not want. They leave college expecting to make big by discovering new things and writing articles. Unfortunately however, that is not how a career in science works. Not every individuals that performs scientific studies or writes journal articles makes a living doing so. Often, these individuals have to obtain other jobs so that they can support themselves and their families. These individuals are usually the college professors.

When individuals that believe researching and writing are the only ways to make a career in the field of science, they will teach that ideology to their students- even if it did not work for them!

Students studying in the field of science need to learn basic life materials, aside from just reading and writing. They need to learn communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking. Without these characteristics, they will struggle to be successful in any position and may find themselves unemployed.
